What is this KeyGlide?

KeyGlide is the result of the final project course of UC's Industrial Product Design degree. It is a capo, or a guitar clamp. It is designed to press the strings, like a capo. However, moving a traditional capo requires the player to stop playing. KeyGlide allows players to move their capo position mid-performance.

Process

Thorough research, ideation techniques, sketching, high- and low-fidelity prototyping, and user interviews comprised the design process of KeyGlide.


365 Brainwriting was used to get a sufficiently novel perspective on the problem, and SCAMPER structured the initial sketches to cover a broad range of solutions.

Sketching, mood boards, and research were the primary methods of fostering design thinking during this project.

Result

KeyGlide saw many challenges in its development, such as failed prototypes and scope creep.


Scope creep encapsulates the largest area for improvement in KeyGlide. It has too many unnecessary features, andsufferss from it by being too complex. There is room for improvement.


However, the result is still a prototype that looks and works like it is designed to.


Features
